posted ‎‎Nov 20, 2009 12:02 PM‎‎ by Don Clark   [ updated ‎‎Nov 20, 2009 12:03 PM‎‎ ]

A reminder for all students that the Winter Parking Ban as described in our Parking Polices is now in effect. That means overnight parking is only permitted in the Resident Student lots. If you are a Biddeford commuter student and will be on campus after midnight there is a marked portion of of lot #18 (the LAC lot) you can park in. For Portland Commuters contact UNE Security at Ext. 2298 if you will be parking on campus after midnight. When snow comes all students must watch the UNE Safety and Security News so that you can be aware when we plow the parking lots. You will be told what lots we are plowing and when. Any cars remaining in a lot being plowed will be towed at the owners expense.

2008 Annual Crime Report and Fire Safety Report for 2008

posted ‎‎Oct 2, 2009 6:44 AM‎‎ by Angela Shambarger

Each year the University is required by the Department of Education to publish certain crime statistics. The law is known as the Jeanne Clery Act, named in memory of a young woman murdered at Lehigh University in 1986. Crimes are reported in the following 7 major categories, with several sub-categories: 1.) Criminal Homicide  2.) Sex Offenses  3.) Robbery; 4.) Aggravated Assault; 5.) Burglary; 6.) Motor Vehicle Theft; and 7.) Arson.

Schools are also required to report the following three types of
incidents if they result in either an arrest or disciplinary referral:
1.) Liquor Law Violations; 2.) Drug Law Violations; and 3.) Illegal
Weapons Possession.

The law does not require the reporting of thefts,
vandalism, simple assault (unless it was a hate crime), intoxication,
or theft from a vehicle. Almost every paragraph in the report addresses a particular requirement of the Clery Act.

New This year....Attached to this report is our first Annual Fire Safety Report. Like Clery, almost every part of the report reflects a specific requirement of this act that became law in August of 2008.

As you scan the report you'll realize we are indeed fortunate at UNE.
We attribute our remarkable numbers to a faculty, staff and student
body that understands the importance of safety and security. Please
print this report for those who may not have access to a computer. A
hard copy of this report is available free of charge at the UNE Dept.
of Safety and Security. The exact web address where this report  can be viewed at any time is
