Big Brothers Big Sisters is holding its most significant fundraiser of the year in Sanford on April 9. We’re inviting the UNE community of students, staff and faculty to participate in the 2011 Bowl for Kid’s Sake.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is not your typical organization. We help children realize their potential and build their futures. We nurture children and strengthen communities. And we couldn’t do any of it without you.

We believe that inherent in every child is the ability to succeed and thrive in life. Most children served by Big Brothers Big Sisters live in single-parent and low-income families, or households where a parent is incarcerated.

Locally, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Maine makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”) throughout Cumberland and York County’s. Currently, there are about 25 children on the wait list for a Big, a majority in Biddeford and Sanford. Most are boys.

In addition to raising much needed funds, Bowl for Kid’s Sake is tremendous fun as teams challenge one another. It can serve to enhance team building. It’s an opportunity for the UNE community to give back to the local community.

Saturday, April 9

Bowl-a-rama, Sanford ME (15 miles west of Biddeford)

10 a.m. – 3p.m.

Teams of 4 or 5 are being recruited from throughout the community. Angela, will you consider being a Recruitment Leader? or designating someone else? (see attached). Participant’s who raise $75 receive a t-shirt. Other incentives include Sea Dogs and Red Sox tickets. Visit www.somebigsbowl.kintera.org for details.

Your support will help put Big Brothers and Big Sisters in children's lives, right here in Southern Maine. Let me know if you’d like me to meet with a student group, or how else I may be helpful.
