UNHEARD VOICES

Wednesday, April 28th 5:30pm

University of New England Portland Campus,

CHP Lecture Hall

Graduate students of the University of New England School of Social Work cordially invite you to a presentation that we are hosting at the UNE Portland Campus on

April 28th at from 5:30pm- 7pm in the CHP Lecture Hall located within Parker Pavilion, Portland Campus

This presentation will be broken up into three main components with the desired outcome of helping increase service providers’, students’ and community members’ understanding of the challenges that some of the residents of Portland continue to face on a daily basis.  We also want to introduce possible program options for service providers to incorporate into their current practices.  We recognize that there are existing forums within specific agencies that discuss issues confronting our diverse communities.  It is our vision that this presentation will serve as an additional resource in an effort to help expand current knowledge and help bring to light some of the many challenges that the refugee and immigrant citizens and other marginalized groups within the city continue to face.  A secondary goal is to help increase the effectiveness and implementation of practices that might better serve their target population.

We have developed this presentation and created materials and content to make available to programs and agencies who are interested in presenting it to their staff. The forum is comprised of a combination of factual information and personal accounts, which students have gathered through research and directly connecting with individuals throughout the community.  These individuals have provided critical information and insight into the reality of transitioning to life in Portland Maine from a variety of backgrounds.

We urge you to take the opportunity to join us on April 28th at 5:30pm on the UNE Portland campus for this informative presentation.   We are excited to share our passion and dedication to this cause.  Please share this invitation with anyone you may feel will be interested in attending.  If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me at your earliest convenience at mherbert@une.edu.

We look forward to seeing you!

Sincerely,

Melissa Herbert
