H1N1 Influenza Update September 24, 2009

posted Sep 24, 2009, 6:06 AM by Sherri DeFilipp

As of today (9/24/09), the University of New England does not have any documented cases of H1N1 influenza.  Some students have visited the Student Health Centers with viral illnesses, but few have presented with influenza-like symptoms.  On the Biddeford Campus, five ill individuals with low-grade fevers have been tested for H1N1, and results were all negative.  One individual on the Portland Campus was also tested and the result was negative.

At this time the seasonal flu vaccine is still available at the Student Health Centers, and we encourage everyone to get their flu shots at the Centers or from a local healthcare provider.  Once the H1N1 vaccine is available, we will notify the community.

We also remind the UNE community about basic precautions, such as regular hand-washing, covering your mouth and nose when you cough, and staying home if you are sick.

Please continue to check the UNE website for the most up-to-date information.
