Volunteers are needed to help preserve and protect historic Fort Preble in South Portland!

The Fort Preble Preservation Committee (FPPC) is holding a work day at the Fort on Saturday, April 24 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Part of the working mission of the FPPC is to protect the surviving grounds, structures and buildings of Fort Preble and to interpret the various uses of the grounds, structures and buildings of the Fort to the public.

To help the FPPC fulfill this mission, we will be scraping, painting, weeding, clearing out brush and more in the most exposed area of the Fort. The FPPC asks that volunteers wear appropriate clothing (suitable for outdoors in April in Maine including work boots, long sleeves and long pants) and bring safety glasses and hand tools (clippers, pruners, saws, etc.) if they have them. Refreshments will be provided.

Transportation from UNE to Fort Preble will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. A UNE van will leave from the campus center circle at 8:15 am on Saturday, and we will return to campus around 1:45pm. Students who would prefer to drive themselves to the Fort should plan on meeting us there a few minutes before 9:00 am. Contact Meg Kowalik (mkowalik@une.edu) for directions.

A sign-up sheet is posted outside of Decary 330. FMI, or to sign up, contact Meg Kowalik at mkowalik@une.edu or x2294.
