Do it in the Dark Competition! This week kicks off the third annual DO IT IN THE DARK competition! This year UNE residence halls will be competing collaboratively against colleges across the country in the Campus Conservation Nationals! For three weeks we are going to work together to reduce the electricity consumption in the residence halls as much as possible. Let's see if we can hit 20% reduction! Themes: Each Monday, you'll receive an email with tips for the theme of the week. The weekly themes are: March 26-April 1: Do It In The Dark April 2-8: Tug The Plug April 9 - 15: Hour Without Power T-Shirts & Facebook: The black and yellow owl t-shirts will make a return, but in limited supply. If you'd like to enter to win one, please visit the energy competition facebook page (UNE Energy Challenge 2012) and submit an electricity saving idea. The 30 most creative suggestions, and those with the most "likes" will win a t-shirt. So enter an idea and check back often to vote for your favorites and get ideas for ways you can save energy. CFL bulb giveaway: UNE's Eco-Rep Team will be in the Decary Cafe Lobby handing out free CFL bulbs during lunch and dinner on Tuesday, March 27th. Come get one and get rid of your inefficient incandescent bulbs! During the first week of the trial, the residence halls consumed 29,427 kWh of electricity. Let's aim for 23,500! Here are a few tips to get you started saving electricity: * Cluster study - have a study session in the lounge so you can turn out the many individual lights in the rooms * Just shut it off - when you leave the room, remember to turn the light off (or the bathroom, or closet, or lounge - wherever you go!)
