I wanted to make the university community aware of some scheduled cemetery maintenance occurring on the Biddeford Campus today.
As you may know, UNE has an annual multi-denominational memorial service honoring those who have donated their bodies to the College of Osteopathic Medicine. The cremated remains of those who wish to be buried at UNE are interred prior to the service at our University cemetery, located next to Marcil Hall. This year’s service took place on September 12.
This year during the interment, it became apparent that a frost heave last winter compromised the integrity of a vault. Though no remains were affected, it necessitated repairing the vault as soon as possible following the service. That repair is under way today. In addition, to accommodate future remains, five more vaults are being added to the open space next to the existing cemetery plot. We will also be making landscaping improvements to the cemetery.
The local and state agencies who oversee cemeteries are aware of our activities. Thank you for your understanding and respect as we complete this important maintenance.
